...the costliest of all. So Art’s song says. At least the fancy stuff is, but I stopped by the Milwaukee Public Market (I’m waiting to see how long it is before someone disables the big neon “L” in “public”) last night and picked up a little plastic to-go box of “Alaskan Roll” at Sushi A Go Go for $5.95. Six little sushi units, soy sauce packets, wasabi, that pickled pink stuff I don’t remember the name of, and cheap disposable chop sticks. Which I am way out of practice with.

Very mild flavor, sure to please those who’d rather avoid strong, fishy, or odd flavors and sure to disappoint those who are looking for stronger tastes or who want to impress/alarm friends (mmmmm...tentacle!)

Anyway, even if it’s not Groin-Grabbingly Transcendent it’s a fine light meal after a trip to Central Library. They have many other foods to try, as well.

Also, the Cedarburg Coffee Roastery sells great cafe mocha. Much better coffee than web design--they have broken internal links and don’t even give their locations anywhere that I could find it. They have a shop in the Public Market. Just follow the scent of the roasting coffee.

the pink stuff is ginger.

What are you doing the Saturday after Thanksgiving? Want to visit Chez Dork for our post-Turkey Day Feast?

That sounds like fun. I don't have any plans yet. I'll see if Joyce is interested when she gets back from Louisiana.

Hey! You're supposed to be at Chambanacon the Saturday after Thanksgiving!

The pink stuff is pickled ginger, and $5.95 for one maki roll is not a really good price. Art's song is funny (the first time anyway) but it's not really true, unless you go for certain rare varieties of sashimi. (Like the blowfish where you die if the chef doesn't prepare it just right... if that's *not* really expensive, you don't want to touch it.)

It may not be a great price in the abstract, but if you wander around the third ward looking at restaurant prices, it doesn't look too bad in context. I mean, it looked like it ought to cost at least twice as much as a cup of coffee, yet was actually less than twice as much. I doubt you'd do much better driving way out to the gourmet grocery stores in the far western suburbs, either.

Unfortunately, Springfield is not especially near Milwaukee, and unlike Champaign, where I lived for six years, I don't feel a strong attachment to Springfield. Particularly on a holiday weekend when truly everything is closed, even more so than usual in Springfield. Besides which, I'm going to OVFF, Windy, and Capricon. I can only go to so many of these things.

Back when I lived in Champaign and the con was actually in Champaign, it was a pretty big filk event.

Yeah, the con being in Spiffled sucks, and I do understand about not being able to go to everything. But I gotta try to get people to come.

If you make it down Chicago-wards, you can come with us to House of Sushi and Noodles - $11.95 maki buffet, all-you-can-eat.

"House of Sushi and Noodles" sounds great. I ought to get Chicago-ward more often.
