It may not be a great price in the abstract, but if you wander around the third ward looking at restaurant prices, it doesn't look too bad in context. I mean, it looked like it ought to cost at least twice as much as a cup of coffee, yet was actually less than twice as much. I doubt you'd do much better driving way out to the gourmet grocery stores in the far western suburbs, either.
Unfortunately, Springfield is not especially near Milwaukee, and unlike Champaign, where I lived for six years, I don't feel a strong attachment to Springfield. Particularly on a holiday weekend when truly everything is closed, even more so than usual in Springfield. Besides which, I'm going to OVFF, Windy, and Capricon. I can only go to so many of these things.
Back when I lived in Champaign and the con was actually in Champaign, it was a pretty big filk event.
