All the technology in one big box!
Nov. 22nd, 2006 08:39 pmI just stopped at a Best Buy store because, well, because I was driving by and had some spare time. Best Buy, for those who don't know, sells, well, sells stuff that plugs in. TVs, computers, stereos, clothes washers, refrigerators---If it plugs in, they've got it. Also CDs, DVDs, and such to stick into the other items that plug in. Anyway, one item that I saw there is pretty hard for me to really understand. It's a refrigerator (a giant-sized American refrigerator) with two LCD screens, one for TV, the other to display various things including photos, recipes, the status of the refrigerator, and the weather forecast (received by radio). If someone can imagine any plausible reason why someone would want to watch TV by standing in front of the fridge and staring at the door, I'd like to hear it. And the weather forecast on the freezer door? Complete with menus and a bunch of buttons, a whole "UI" as they say in the computer business, to configure and access it. Is this really a need being filled here? Did the manufacturer simply have a whole bunch of disparate technologies lying around, and decide to put them all into one big box? The price was around $3200, by the way.
