After 17 consecutive cloudy days—a new record for Milwaukee—we finally have a bright, sunny morning with a nearly cloudless blue sky, and a more-normal morning low of -7°C, bringing with it the usual winter morning ritual of scraping icy stuff off of the car windows. Yay for sunlight!

Isn't it great to wake up on a cold, sunny morning? Not that I've done a lot of that lately - usually when I get up it's still dark, and on the week-end it was cloudy.

Btw - when I return from work, it's nearly dark again... I must be doing something wrong.

It's dark when I wake up, but by the time I'm traveling to work the sun is up. It is completely dark for the trip home. Summer, of course, is different, with lots of sun. You're even farther north, by a bit, right? So similar but more so.

To be honest - I've no idea! With all that snow and cold you've got I'd have sworn that you are farther north (because it gets colder the farther north you get) but that was only a guess.

At this time of year, the sun comes up at about 8.30 a.m. and leaves at 5 p.m. I usually arrive at my office between 6.45 a.m. and 7 a.m. and leave between 4.30 p.m. and 5 p.m. - or, on Thursdays, at 6 p.m.

We're 43° north, you are closer to 51° north. We are slightly to the south of Bordeaux, France, but we are over a thousand kilometers from the ocean. European climate is very odd to those of us who live in the middle of North America.

Here these days sunrise is about 7:20 and sunset 16:40. I wake up closer to 6:30, but don't leave until nearly 8. It's plenty dark by the time I leave work at 17:30.
