Solstice

On this shortest day of the year, when geometry gives us the least sunlight, the weather this year also gives us darkness, with clouds filling the sky here in Milwaukee. It has warmed up a bit, to -10°C this morning. Traces of snow are falling. Icy stuff covers most of the ground. When the world gives you ice, the wise go ice skating. Tonight, after work, I’ll go do some ice skating, circling the rink while hearing friends’ voices singing on the iPod.

And the day when I start looking forward to humming Here Comes The Sun at every opportunity. Call it a superstition, but it has worked so far. :-)

And you call that "warmed up"? I'd rather have said "it's slightly less cold"... :-)

It's noticably warmer than -17. I like walking around the city when it's good and cold, below -15°C. Everyone else looks so stunned, and I'm wandering around with a big grin, marveling that those other people don't have thicker gloves. You can taste the air when it's cold enough. It tastes like winter.

We might get up to around +2 tomorrow. Then everything gets wet and ice forms in new places at night when it cools back down.

*brrrr*, cold in Milwaukee! We had about + 8 here. Bah. All wet and foggy and... bahhhhhhhhh! :)
But we spent a nice afternoon shopping. :-)

Well, it's always wet there, right? :) I kind of like fog, actually.

I did get to the organic food place to buy chocolate before skating.
