Joyce started showing symptoms of some sort of cold or flu during DucKon, and then I started feeling ill on Tuesday. First I went through the sore throat stage, which diminished by around Friday, and the congestion phase started up. It also seems to have spread to my left middle ear, leaving me with poor hearing, intermittent pain, a touch of balance trouble, tinnitus, and general unhappiness. At the moment, my left ear seems to be getting a bit better, but now my right ear is a bit stuffed and achy. Great.
I am, therefore, missing tonight’s house filk at Carol and John’s house. I wouldn’t want anyone else to get this, my voice is trashed, I can’t hear right, and I’d rather sleep. (I have been practicing the flute a bit, though. My voice may be trashed, but I can still play the flute.) It looks like I’ll also miss the next scheduled filk due to the Oshkosh air show.
There is, at least, plenty of auto racing to watch on TV. The 24 hours of Le Mans is on, plus the ARCA stock car race, and the Canadian formula 1 Grand Prix tomorrow. Frankly, auto racing is fairly compatible with messed-up hearing. There’s nothing to hear but vrooooooooooooooom, anyway.
