I went shopping for pants that fit better.

Like many people, I have never had an especially easy time finding clothing that fits. Those of you who have seen me know that as men go, I'm diminutive, and in the past I've had a lot of very baggy clothing. I've gotten tired of baggy. I think I'm gradually shifting to a body shape that if anything is even harder to fit. Lately I've been finding my pants have a lot of extra material in the waist and so when I tighten my belt such that they don't fall off the extra material bunches up. On the other hand, I've been hanging out with the skaters at the 400 meter oval and my legs are looking a little bit like proper speed skater legs, so there needs to be space for them.

I tried on a number of different styles and sizes. The smallest size men's pants normally available in the USA are "29" waist and "30" length. Did you know you can get "Relaxed Fit" jeans in 29x30? You can! I had no idea. It turns out that the waist is about right and there is space for the glutes and quads. So, like a lot of people around age 40, I'm wearing Relaxed Fit jeans. I'm guessing the dominant reason people switch to "relaxed fit" pants is not that the coach is having them do a lot of intervals, but there you go. Even when I'm being conventional I'm unconventional.
