In this morning’s “Hi & Lois” cartoon, the kid, with his cowboys and Indians toys out, sings, “Oh give me a home of a buffalo gnome and the deer and the cantaloupe play... Where seldom is ‘nerd’ a discouraging word! And the spies are not drowning all day.” Dad says, “I think I prefer his version.” I guess it’s sort of a found-filk.

Yes, we’re trying again. This time they dialysed the rodent urine, which is kind of an odd thing to do when you think about it, and we’re going to give it another shot with the salt hopefully gone. At least the smell is gone, which is good. This is what you get when you work with nephrologists.

The copy of the Echo’s Children songbook I ordered has arrived. It is filled, not surprisingly, with songs. Songs I need to learn. Songs I did not even know about. I do want to learn No Greater Love (aka Marcus’ Song). When I saw that one I went to the Big Box o’ Babylon 5 video tapes to find “Between the Darkness and the Light,” “Endgame,” and “Rising Star.” It had been years since I last watched any B5. I remember why I liked the series so much. Also, I remember how crappy VHS at super-long-play speed looks. And back when I was a lad, we were happy, happy I tell you, to see video like that. The kids these days.... Um, where was I? Ivanova, Marcus, and the alien healing machine. Not really easy scenes to watch. The good news is, I’ve never been in a relationship that ended like that. But some were not all that happy, and those memories were much fresher when I first saw those episodes.
