I spent a delightful afternoon kayaking on Pike Lake with Joyce. We both have cheap and cheerful Sevylor Tahiti K79 inflatables. At somewhere in the neighborhood of $130, this is the low-end of inflatables, but they float, and being inflatables they can be transported in the trunk of a small car and stored in a closet. I’ve had mine since last fall, but this is Joyce’s first time out with her’s. She’s quite the paddling enthusiast, striking out into the strong wind across the lake twice, with drifting back with the wind in between. We seem to have found an activity at which we are about evenly matched athletically.

There were lots of people out on this nice sunny day, many more than the last time I was out on Pike Lake, a few months ago. I was wearing a wetsuit then and very few other people were there, for some reason. We saw a small amphibious airplane do two touch-and-gos. I’ve seen it there before. I’m not sure of the type, possibly a SeaRey. I’ve also seen a Cessna on floats tied up by the shore. There were lots of people on personal watercraft, people towing water skiers, people towing inflatable thingies, people fishing from boats, a woman in a bikini on a boat exposing herself to dangerous ultraviolet radiation (as well as to view, but she wasn’t as cute as Joyce, even though Joyce was completely covered for protection from the dangerous UV radiation---I just had to go on memory of what Joyce looked like in bed this morning....), and people just plain going fast in boats. There were at least three other kayakers and a few windsurfers.
