As I wrote earlier, my father, long suffering from Alzheimer’s disease, has been (extra) ill recently. His breathing has been...pausing on occasion this last week and sometime this afternoon he, inevitably, failed to un-pause.
I’ll be traveling to Arizona soon, details to be determined, for the funeral and to spend some time with mom.

Date: 2004-06-26 10:01 am (UTC)A note from when my grandmother died of Alzheimer's: to a certain extent, feeling relief is normal. If you do, don't feel guilty over it. As you noted in your earlier post, in most ways your father has been dead for a while. Being relieved that his body has finally caught up with him is entirely natural.

Date: 2004-06-26 03:08 pm (UTC)I do feel some relief, and I think mother does, too. Life has been very hard for him the last few months, with the trouble breathing and eating. Eventually, the time comes.
