beige_alertToday was library day for me. I’ve now got The Outlaw Sea, The Care and Feeding of Books Old and New, Sick Societies, and End of Voyages to read. I also dropped by Borders and picked up First Spanish Reader, a collection of Spanish short stories and poems with English translations on the facing page. The downtown Borders actually has a non-zero collection of foreign-language literature, though not really much that looks interesting to me. One of my other recent purchases was Street Spanish 3: The Best of Naughty Spanish, which is a more interesting read than the usual textbooks. Instead of example dialog like “Buenos Días, señor. Busco mis maletas,” (Good morning sir. I am looking for my suitcases) you get things like “¿Qué coño está haciendo? ¡Qué ojete! ¿Es que no sabes manejar?” (What the hell are you doing? What an asshole! Don’t you know how to drive?) The author David Burke says, “It seems that one of the best ways to learn offensive name-calling is to hop in a cab, sit back, and just listen.”
I stopped at Chipotle Burritos and Tacos for dinner and had, frankly, a lousy burrito. I’m coming to the conclusion that fast-food burritos are just not a good proposition. I had originally planned on trying the Trocadero, but it turns out that they don’t start serving actual meals until later in the evening.
