"Potsdamer Platz looks like a hastily-clapped-together exurb of Milwaukee." From "Michael Kimmelmann on the Berlin Stadtschloss" in Andrew Hammel's German Joys blog. I haven't visited Berlin, so I can't really comment.

Potsdamer Platz is totally cool. Whoever wrote that is an idiot.
(I visit Berlin quite frequently)

I used to go to Gencon in Milwaukee a long time ago. I enjoyed the city a lot. Not sophisticated but good food, nice restaurants on the river, good frozen custard and friendly people. Compared to Toronto my home now I found the airport well run. The locals were nice too. There was some steak place on North Plankinton ? that was way too good. I pinched pennies on other things to have a meal there each trip.

The airport is nice. Only airport with a used book store that I know of. Was that Butch's Clock steakhouse? I haven't eaten there (yet). It was always nice having Gencon here. You used to see people in costume walking around the city (and the inevitable press coverage 'weird people visit'). The Safe House was always a favorite restaurant among Gencon attendees. Hilarious place. Milwaukee actually has been turning into more of a 'real' city, with people walking around the streets and more shops opening, and people living downtown.

I remember the Safe House. The Clock the steak place looks like it based on the web site but the Firecracker shrimp
I always had is not on the menu.It was not a Martini Bar when I went. Just an old fashioned steakhouse very 70's. The Name has changed was not Butch's Clock so the owner may be different.Milwaukee always seemed like a real city to me.
