Weekend in photos
Feb. 11th, 2008 07:51 pmWhat did I do over the weekend?
First, skiing at Lapham Peak. After a nice trip around the big loop, I went up to the top of the hill where the tower is.
Tower:

It turns out this is the non-crowded season for picnics:

The view from the tower:

One needs to be careful in the winter:

Then I spent the night with Joyce.
How do we manage with all this snow? Serious tools:

It is quite a bit of snow:

In the morning, we had our traditional coffee from the Cedarburg Roastery

Always taking pics of her:

Now that she has a nice car, I get to be a passenger while she drives me around. This way I can take pictures from the moving car:

Snow!

Road construction!

Date: 2008-02-12 01:18 pm (UTC)That church is impressive, and certainly is a prominent sight for anyone heading south on 12th street around there. Then again, right now I'm sorting through my photos from Köln. You've visited there, perhaps? A bit closer for you. Most impressive church by the train station there....

Have you ever been to Rome, though? When you walk into St. Peter's there, they're boasting. You start at the door, walk halfway down the aisle, and there is a bronze plaque in the floor: "Cologne Dome". So that is where it would start if the far walls were matching, and it would not scratch the ceiling of St. Peter's. There are plaques for Notre Dame and other big churches too, but none of them starts before half way down the aisle. As I said they are simply boasting :-)

Date: 2008-02-13 02:24 am (UTC)I've not seen Rome. (I think roughly the closest to Rome I've been is Köln. From here, they practically seem like neighbors. They're both...over there.) That's a pretty unsubtle boast. I thought boasting was unChristian....
The cathedral was most impressive to see, and it's interesting now to look closely at all the photos I took with my Big Lens. The stone carvers were kept very, very busy there. Just an endless series of things like this (http://www.flickr.com/photos/beigephotos/2251927154/) way up high. No surprise that it's a famous tourist attraction. It was so much fun being a tourist in Germany :)

Date: 2008-02-13 01:29 pm (UTC)Yes, Rome is pretty close. Just a two hours flight I think. As an Amaerican once said to me: "Oh, Germany, that's clsoe to Africa isn't it?" Yeah, well, I guess when you've spent all your life in Pennsilvania, from there it is. :-)
