A substantial amount of snow fell on Friday, roughly 15 cm. It was the fluffy yet somewhat sticky sort that even now is still covering every tree branch and the upwind side of every tree trunk. It looks like a spray-on insulation contractor got really drunk and went crazy in the woods. Keep your eyes open and you'll see all sorts of gravitationally improbable clumps of snow somehow clinging to tree branches. Yesterday I drove up to the northern unit of the Kettle Moraine State Forest to ski at the Zilmer trail. I hadn't been there in a few years, and it's fun to ski someplace different.

Looking into the woods, we see black and white vertical stripes, like a giant bar code, or the best place in the world for zebras to hide. There might be a whole herd in there!

No we don't! Repeat after me: We do not want snow! We want nice pictures of snow from other people around the world but we do not want the cold white stuff fall from our skies and block our highways and cause us to be late for work because some people forget where the gas foot is as soon as a single snow flake crosses their way. That was a mighty long sentence, wasn't it?

Third attempt, dammit!

Pretty pictures btw. Wanna see German winter? It's cold but no snow yet:

HD zoo! There was a little waterfall feeding the stalagmites on the tree trunk :-)

Yes, but fortunately for me you said it in English! *g*

We're used to snow around here. 15cm fell during the day on Friday, traffic was kinda slow that evening, and we were back to business as usual Saturday morning. That's the thing about driving way up to that farther-out ski area---I was going to do that a few weeks ago, but it was still snowing pretty hard, so I figured I'd best stick to the place just off the Interstate highway instead of down a bunch of smaller roads. You have to wait a day for the minor rural roads to get well-cleared.

Depends. If you want snow, I'd recommend during the winter. If you want to camp by the lake and swim, I'd recommend summer.

Okay, then I'll choose summer AND winter.

Sounds good! Ice skating indoors year-round, too.
