I haven’t even finished putting all my slides into the plastic sheets but I had to scan a few. While in Arizona, traveling to the Holy Trinity Monastery in St. David...

Nice photos of the monastery.

I don't see any tigers in the last one. Somehow I don't think there are any in the building either. Can I sue them for false advertising?

BTW, when you post an entry with more than one picture (or even only one big one, like >50K), please cut-tag it so those of us who still have to live with dialup connections can load our friends pages without huge delays...

I didn't actually go into the building, but I don't think they had any tigers in there, either.

I can cut-tag images if that's what people want, but I'll note that the reason that I tend not to break pages up into smaller pieces or hide them behind cut tags is not because I have broadband but because until recently I didn't, and as a dial-up user I always much preferred fewer, bigger pages to having to click and wait, click and wait, each wait annoyingly long but too short to go do anything else during. I may be weird, though, because most of the web design experts recommend exactly the strategy I hated most, breaking everything up into many tiny pieces. The Livejournal friends page system may change things a bit, though, since it tends to have you load the same entries over and over, each time you check for updates, though if you use one computer the images ought to be cached.

When I actually want to read a page, I agree, I'd rather have one long wait and get the whole thing than click and wait, click and wait, click and wait. But LJ posts are a special case, because your post is just one small part of my friends page. The first time you post that new entry, I want to read it, but every time after that that I load the page, I already know what it says, so I don't want it to take up a huge amount of screen space or download time. Even when I'm at work with a broadband connection, when I'm scrolling through my friends list to see if any of the posts I've already seen have more comments than I remember, a post that takes up a lot of screen space is more work to scroll past. So please, put posts that are more than half a page long behind a cut tag.

I check for updates to my friends page frequently, using the "refresh" command in the browser, and for some reason, this causes Firefox to re-download all the images even though they all should be sitting in its cache. This is probably something wrong with Firefox rather than the system in general, but it does mean that posts with non-cut-tagged large images on my friends page make me do a lot of redundant downloading.

I think that's a feature, not a bug---you might be looking for the latest version of the images or trying to recover from a transient error downloading them the first time. In any case, images re-downloaded repeatedly via people's friends view pages are also a waste of the bandwidth I'm paying my web hosting service for. Point taken.
