Starbucked

I'm not really a critic of Starbucks. They serve perfectly tolerable sugar-milk-coffee beverages, and wherever you go, they probably have several locations conveniently nearby. Indeed, I just noticed one opened recently at Mayfair mall, here on the west-ish side of Milwaukee. The surprising thing about that is that the mall already has Starbucks, in the middle on the second floor, as well as the shop serving Starbucks-brand product in the Barnes and Noble bookstore. Now, thankfully, no one will have to walk more than one-quarter of the way through the mall to get to the nearest Starbucks coffee product. On the one hand, I guess we have to suppose that there is a lot of demand for coffee in the mall, and it's just wonderful that we are being serviced so efficiently. On the other hand, what the hell? Three??? In one building?

And amazing as it may be, I have never been inside astarbucks or tasted their coffee... One day I'll have to change that.

On the other hand, I don't like flavoured coffee with syrups and stuff. And for a regular "just black coffee thank you" they are a bit too expensive.

There are so *many* of them here it's a bit cliché to make fun of the number. I actually only specifically recall seeing one (http://www.flickr.com/photos/beigephotos/2251114831/) in Germany. McDonald's, on the other hand.... Lots of them. Even as an American trying to avoid such things I not only ended up inside one (and, yes, it seemed nicer, and cleaner, than what I recall here), I even ended up eating a cheeseburger. I figured I'd have felt even sillier turning down a free cheeseburger than I did eating McDonald's in Bielefeld.

I seem to remember an episode of The Simpsons from many years ago where someone goes into a Starbucks shop and there's a second, smaller store inside the first. And the interior store has a "Starbucks -- opening soon" sign on it.
