There were not very many people at the ice rink tonight. It is amazing how much more exercise you can get when you have space to go fast. It’s also a lot easier to skate backwards with fewer people to avoid.
I don't think I actually live much closer than that, but I work about half-way between home and the center of the city where the park with the ice rink is, so it doesn't seem so far. It's actually a fairly convenient bus ride for me if I don't drive.
